Camel protocol

This is a short description about what I know about Camel, the intelligent network protocol.
I learn this protocol by working. I've never received a real formation about that.
  • CAMEL in OSI stack

CAMELgives information about a call
TCAPcontrols the session (usually one call)
SCCPgives the messae to the correct program with SSN number
MTP3(belongs to SS7) sends message to the correct machine using a Point Code or a Global Title
MTP2(belongs to SS7) sends the message to the next platform
MTP1(belongs to SS7) sends the message in the correct channel

  • Intelligent Network Equipment
Usually you can find in a Intelligent Network this kind of equipment :

SSP : Phone switch
SCP : Intelligent Network service platform
STP : Translate the Global Title to a point code

  1. Message
Camel message are encapsulated into TCAP session message (TC-BEGIN, TC-CONTINUE, TC-END)
You receive information about a call into a Request Bcsm Event :
- InitialDetectionPoint
- O-Busy
- T-Busy
